The Royal Agricultural University’s MSc in Agroecology draws on extensive expertise in combining academic and applied/practical learning to support students in becoming well-informed, skilled, and confident contributors to resilient agroecosystems. The MSc programme is informed by a wide network of agroecological initiatives – both in the UK and abroad – ensuring that students gain breadth and depth in their studies, experience, and research.
Agroecology is gaining increased attention today for its contributions to the development of resilient food systems, social innovation, and ground-breaking research. Agroecology draws on science, social studies, and ecological principles to foster and support synergies between plants, animals, humans, and the environment. A central aim of agroecological initiatives is that they are economically viable, that they support human and social values, and that they are ecologically responsible. The integration of these three domains requires interdisciplinary thinking, collaboration, innovation, and contextual application.
RAU’s MSc Agroecology provides students with an education in the fundamentals of Agroecology, in how Agroecological principles are applied in practice, and in a range of elective topics, each contributing to the development of resilient food systems. Research for a dissertation is undertaken by each student in an agroecological area of their choice.
